Very frustrating until I saw this post. Confrimed for me in 11.04. My machine had had very high uptimes so I did not notice until my UPS went recently and I would loose printers on reboots. I was blindly hacking my smb.conf until this post. rc.local with /sbin/reload smbd is my workaround
