If you are building a custom version of evdev, then that is likely the
issue. You may have needed a custom evdev module to get it to work
properly with the initial driver you were using. However, with the newer
driver you are using you should not need a modified evdev.

Please reinstall evdev and see if it resolves the issue:

$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-input-evdev

You also should not need the snippet in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but I don't
think it would harm things either.
