I cannot reproduce this. I have disabled the firewalls between an Oneiric machine and a Natty machine and played an mp3 via mplayer on the Oneiric and used tcpdump to examine the traffic (there was none). I logged the Natty user out and back in, still could not reproduce. This seems to be a configuration issue-- can you examine your pulseaudio (and possibly avahi) settings and provide more details? I also noticed when I installed mplayer it pulled in esound-common-- do you have esound configured on these machines?
