Daniel, you're welcome to submit an icon proposal. I am not a decisionmaker and can't say whether your proposal would have a decent chance of acceptance or not since we're after UI freeze but it still may be worth doing.
According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#Branding the Design Team was wanting "an attractive shopping bag with handles, such as you might get from a high-class department store."
