OK, what I've done; I completed the install, no boot afterwards as
expected, gparted shows installed size of 836.45MB.

I have not yet booted into recovery mode to install lubuntu-desktop,
instead I booted into a parallel install of Ubuntu Natty, then mounted
that new install (labeled Alt Lubuntu) and opened var/log as admin
(using nautilus-gksu). I then copied /var/log/installer/syslog to the
desktop as a text file and I'm attaching it here. I hope this works.

I should be able to leave this installed unless we have a complete
rebuild of the Lubuntu live image very soon. In fact, unless there are
any major changes to ubiquity, I'd likely skip all but the live and
manual partitioning steps at this point.

When I'm done here I'll boot into recovery mode and complete the
install.
