I found the set of instructions for (re-) installing drivers / configuring them
by user 'trothigar' on the ubuntu forums at

helpful and got things working for me.
Looks as if there are some loose ends. Hope they get fixed soon as I
find it quite discouraging (as Pres. of the Ottawa Canada Linux Users
Group) to see such problems myself. It gives one some cause for
reservations in recommending novices use Linux -- and I actually think
the Ubuntu folk are doing a good job. It's unfortunate we have to be
BETTER than the overfed competition.
