Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: scim
There is something wrong with scim on Ubuntu.
Firstly it probably got pulled in because I tried to do a setup in
Japanese until I got to a page where pictures and device names were not
enough to guess what the setup means, and switched back to an
intelligible language. An interesting setup feature. hmm, the Japanese
language support is still 6.06..
scim does not work in gnome-terminal. Anything I type gets lost when it
is supposed to be committed to the terminal (ie. on pressing enter). The
on/off is global (in contrast to other distributions which set up scim
so that it can be turned on/off in each window separately). The on/off
is also bound to Shift+Space which triggers scim quite often (I never
had such problem elsewhere, even when scim was installed). Unlike other
distributions scim also does not work in rxvt-unicode, another terminal
capable of displaying weird characters. In urxvt scim appears but offers
only English/Keyboard method (ie identity, no transform).
It does not work with the gnome dictionary applet. All typed text is
latin, No weird characters are generated. Since the applet has options
for Thai dictionaries I think some advanced input could be helpful. I
did not try the dictionary, though.
