I had some hard locks on my Thinpad T30's ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility
M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]. I resolved it by adding
Option "SWcursor" "on"
Option "AGPMode" "1"
Option "RenderAccel" "0"
to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf
I haven't scientifically tested to find out which option is the critical
one.
