I have tested this again but the behaviour was a little different. I
could create a file with dd of a few hundred MB without a problem. But
if I want to compress something with 7z or just to copy a file of a few
MB from my home directory (ecryptfs) to a subdirectory with PCManFM the
system will hang. I could look one time to the value of nr_dirty after
this happened. nr_dirty was nearly empty and a sync doesn't solve the
problem anymore. On this test I have set vm.dirty_bytes to 1048576.
