Update regarding Lenovo B575 AND Ubuntu 11.10 beta 2 using kernel 3.0.0-11 With x86_64 (64 bit) version shutdown fails. With i686 (32 bit) version shutdown and suspend WORKS !!!
So the problem (at least on the B575) is related to some difference between the 64 and 32 bit Ubuntu versions. (I would just use the 64 bit version but I also want to use KVM.) Perhaps a few others can check the 64 bit versus 32 bit versions on their systems and report back.
