Before trying with external mic, there's one thing that could be
interesting to try: Start a terminal and execute the "alsamixer"
command. Press "F4" to select capture and use arrow keys to navigate to
the "Capture" control. There you can adjust left and right channels with
the Q,Z,E and C keys. Does turning one of the channels off - while
keeping the other on - enable you to record successfully?
