Well, my window borders did not disappear and I did no unity --reset, but my unity is gone, too. It happend when ccsm crashed the desktop once, and ever since. When I change to tty1 and do "DISPLAY=:0 compiz --replace" everything is ok again. Zordid, does this help you too?
This is for my main user account only, other accounts work fine, so it should be a corrupt configuration.
