Hi yvecai, version 1.7.2 does not exist as an official version of gdal
that I can see in Ubuntu. Lucid had version 1.6.3.

gdal | 1.7.3-5ubuntu1 | precise/universe | source
Please try with one of the supported versions, and if you still have
problems, open a new bug with
'apport-bug python-gdal'
