I'm glad your headphone jack works now. Could you please elaborate on
your problem with compiz effects? Are you referring to the stock effects
or the special effects available from a utility like CCSM (windows
burning into existence, etc). In 11.10 CCSM
(CompizConfigSettingsManager) is pretty much broken, and attempting to
alter special compiz effects with it breaks Unity, so I would advise
against delving to deep in compiz effects until those problems are
resolved.
