The updated procedure to reproduce the problem bug #829049
(https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+question/177580):
1. Open Background Settings (Appearance) in gnome-control-center (System
Settings)
2. Is the 'Color and Gradients' already selected?
3. If so, is 'Full Color' already selected?
Answer: For the me the background was set to "Wallpaper" but I still
have the problem.
