This bug affects me too. The install cd for 11.10 server needs some remediation of the grub installer. If it were up to me I would pull the image off the release page or at least have a strong disclaimer. I think it has something to do with the newfangled EFI, whatever that is. I noticed an option to create an efi partition manually in the partitioner but doing so doesn't seem to help. It would be nice if the installer offered a choice to use a bootloader that works on my hardware (Intel mobo/bios & cpu circa 2009)
