This bug was present in 11.04. The laptop is new. I only installed 11.04
momentarily after finding 11.10 had problems.

I think the mainline kernel fixed it. Though, there may be another cause
for it currently working. Not all the same modules are loaded with the
mainline kernel as with the standard ubuntu kernel. For example, the
wlagn module doesn't appear to exist in the mainline kernel download,
and as such isn't loaded. I'm not sure what other module discrepancies
there are.

** Description changed:

The machine appears to halt at random intervals for random short amounts
of time. In the dmesg output there is sometimes several sometimes just
one or a few back traces related to a missed ironlake_irq_handler. These
backtraces don't coincide with each halt.

The ui is affected by the halts in a variety of ways. Audio will skip,
- and sections of the file, though produce sound continuously. the mouse
- and keyboard are unresponsive. Sometimes a keypress will 'stick' and
- produce a steam of the appropriate letter on the screen for the duration
- of the halt. Desktop effects will halt mid-transition.
