Even though this is not relevant, i'll continue with my rant:

I also had to ensure that the compiz plugin gtk had been checked in ccsm at 
least once.
The compiz plugin wallpaper had to be checked and set to be identical to the 
wallpaper set in system settings otherwise the dash was always on the bottom of 
the windows stack with the super button was pressed.
I still can't get the rotating cube viewport switcher to work without flashing 
but the default wall works so there's no need to have an epileptic fit.
But i'm still getting the dbus warnings (don't know the cause yet) and 
glib-gobject errors and indexing errors when nautilus is opened but not to the 
same extent as immediately after the upgrade.  This has prevented me from 
opening very large documents to work on.

Another victory for those who advise against upgrades in favour of new
installs.
