I can also confirm the presence of the older bug:
Regardless of the external monitor resolution (at present only 640x480
is possible) whenever a movie player starts (vlc / mplayer / kmplayer /
xine tested) the external monitor turns off and then turns back on.
This results in a screen blank for the external monitor lasting anywhere
between 5 seconds to 30 seconds. This obviously makes using films /
animations etc in presentations impossible (if the film is looped then
the problem occurs whenever the film loops).
I first encountered this under 10.04 but at this point could force the
external resolution using the "useedid false" option in xorg.conf
I haven't followed this up this because the resolution problem was an
over riding priority but both are important.
