Once you start seeing NVRM: Xid messages bad behaviour in X is to be expected.
Only NVIDIA have the proper resources for resolving problems that result in
Xids because they are the only ones with the source code for their driver.
It's a long shot but if you have the option to disable cool 'n quiet in
your BIOS can you do so and see if that makes any difference?
