Ditto for both my (physical desktop) machines with vmware player : Guest: Win XP, VM tools up to date Host: Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop: Gnome-shell Video Driver: Intel® G41 x86/MMX/SSE2 (and on the other desktop, same symptoms with Gallium open source driver for ATI HD 6770 card)
