I admit that this was rather a general expression of disappointment that a particular bug report. I do know a lot of people who used Debian and moved to Ubuntu some years ago because it was better than, but are now dropping Ubuntu because Ubuntu currently means „lots of trouble with the Desktop”. I am currently using three different Oneiric machines most of the time. To find the best desktop, I have one with Unity, one with Gnome 3, and one with XFCE. None of these works sufficiently, while XFCE is still the best and Unity has the most bugs and usage problems. Two weeks ago I bough a small barebone computer and took an old hard disk that I had replaced in a Notebook with a bigger one about three years ago and never used since. I therefore had a 3 year old Ubuntu running. It was wonderful. Everything just worked. Fast, smooth, simple, reliably, stable, intuitive. And it looked pretty good. The best Ubuntu releases where those with brown backgrounds. This was the time when Ubuntu tried to be a Linux. Ubuntu began to degrade around the time when they moved to the purple background. I recently bought a Mac. And I am shocked to see that almost everything that came with Unity is not a progress or new invention, but rather a trial to plagiarize the MacOS Desktop. And actually, this is where most problems come from. Ubuntu is not trying to be Linux anymore. Ubuntu is trying to become a poor man's MacOS. That's the bug you have to fix. regards Hadmut -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/886931 Title: Oneiric is a regression due to dysfunctional quality assurance To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/886931/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
