I had the exactly same problem as posted ("When using VLC to play a WMA-File
recorded in mono, I only get an audio-output on the left side") I use Xubuntu
11.10. - and vlc 1.1.12. It happened only with VLC.
The problem is the package "vlc-plugin-pulse" as Jannis Menn said: I have
uninstalled that package in Synaptic Package Manger, and now VLC works as it
should .
