Note that linux-next has a set of patches [0] by Andi Kleen which will allow udev to load modules based on CPUID features, e.g. coretemp and cpufreq drivers. So 'autoloading' coretemp & friends (along the lines of what Steve described in #11) should be possible fairly soon - without going through sensors-detect and /etc/modules.
