Hi Bryce, Thanks for reviewing my report. I will attempt to provide the additional details you mentioned if the crash happens again. I did a dist-upgrade this morning so I'm guessing I will have the latest xserver-xorg-input-synaptics you mentioned. If it doesn't happen for a week or two, perhaps that solved it.
For the 100% CPU issue, I did try killing off client applications before killing X itself. There were probably still one or two left so it could have been one of those, but I believe I did kill the "bigger" ones like Firefox and Chromium. Anyway, I'll try to kill off the client apps more methodically and completely next time. I'll give xrestop a try, too; thanks for the tip. I also noticed (and this is probably the topic for a new bug report), that a particular operation in Chromium caused a new window to appear, which is completely white, always on top, not associated with any application, and difficult/impossible to close. I noticed that after this happened, compiz is now consistently using exactly 24% of my CPU according to top. The particular operation seemed to involve having the autocomplete dropdown activated while also doing Ctrl+N, though I can't remember exactly what combination of things were going on at that time. I'll provide more details if it happens again, but the window is still there if there's some diagnostics I can run to see what it is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/933788 Title: X crashes or spins on occasion To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/933788/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
