Vajra: Can you file a new bug report and include the output of lspci /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log in it? Can you also indicate whether you can here the log in sound and whether caps lock works even though the screen is black? If you are running binary drivers could you switch to binary drivers and again report whether the screen is black? Can you then include a link to your newly created bug report within in this bug.
