Additionally regarding the missing packages, I checked a fresh install of 12.04 in VirtualBox and even though multiarch is enabled and Synaptic shows a bunch of i386 files, some are missing, like libgl1-mesa- dev:i386. It seems that the missing packages is a general problem. So is this worth filing another bug for?
