Found via dmesg command that last line entered was:
eth0: no IPv6 routers found
So added in 11.10 ¨blacklist ipv6¨ to etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.
This circumvented the problem. Not in 11.04 where things are a bit different.
But there, when manually starting the update process, the network started.
So the Gigabit card works a bit different than the 10/100 bit network card.
Why not looking for IPv4 router if there is no IPv6 router?
Pls look at the differences between both network cards.
