I'm not sure what more information should I provide... However, I scanned a barcode from the console (after typing "Ctrl+Alt+F1" from KDE session) and it does output the exact same garbage. I tried with a few other barcodes, and it seems that the outputed garbage are actually translatable: ç = 9 è = 7 _ = 8 é = 2 & = 1 etc.
