I have now got a patch committed into upstream ALSA, but not the 12.04 kernel.
That means the following:
1) You can use the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS way to
upgrade your sound drivers. (They are currently building, but should have
finished building by the time you read this hopefully)
2) After a reboot, go into alsamixer and make sure the new "Inverted Internal
Mic" control is muted.
** Package changed: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu)
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
Status: Triaged => In Progress
