While all panels/menus were missing, I pulled up a command prompt and typed:
sudo unity --reset

This brought up the missing Unity (3D) panels/menus, but it they only
lasted for that session; when I log out and log back in they're missing
again.

I also attempted to reset my video drivers, Because remember, Unity (3D)
desktop runs fine when I boot from the Live CD; Unity seems to be
corrupted as a result of imperfections in the Upgrade process of going
from 11.10 to 12.04 beta2. So, my reasoning is this: if I can get my
upgraded-system to forget its video drivers, maybe it will rediscover
them like the Live CD (which works) must do each time.

I used the steps in the source below to reset all this stuff, but same
result : when I login to unity (3D) not panels or menus show.

video-drivers

I'll probably do a fresh install to fix this, but I wanted to document
upgrade troubles.
