This bug has the keyword regression set, but I can't see any evidence
that it is indeed a regression (and where exactly that regression has
been introduced). Bryce, can you please clarify (and maybe drop the
regression flag)?

Or given how much the upstream bug looks like an unfortunate
amalgamation of different issues, should we close this as notourbug
until the situation clears up a bit (and it's clearer that drm/i915 is
the culprit)?
