I am not sure if I understand you correctly; if not ,feel free to reopen
this. However, I think this is a correct behaviour - when you set your
network manually, it is an end of job for NM (generally, your
/etc/network/interfaces should not include any uncommented lines that
are not in form auto interface, maybe beside loopback (lo))
