Hi again folks, Please bare with me if above I have caused confusion with window manager stuff, as suffering the ill effects of brain tumour still :)
With reference to the Display managers, I had kdm running instead of lightdm running as I prefer it as its more tweakable :) send all flames to your local mp not me, ok? ;) Just updated to latest updates as of today, and most of unity has been updated, yay!!! After update log in as regular user, and execute "unity --reset"n and everything is flying along again for me! I hope this works for others too :) Now going to reinstall KDE, LXDE, XFCE for fun and see if they are all working again. Mick.
