I'm in up-to-date 12.04, and yes, it happens in live sessions too, but it's less bad because live sessions are light (at least running from a usb stick).
Notice that it doesn't happen in my machine only-- it happens on every machine I have tried before, but it's not quite noticeable in faster machines because the difference will be something like 0,2 seconds with the click and 0,5 with the keyboard. But in my machine it's something like 1 second vs. 3 seconds. The difference is huge. Anyway, try to see for yourself.
