I have this bug too.
The connection seems up but there isn't data transfers (for example no
DNS lookup). This occuor after some random time.
After minutes I have this in my dmesg:
[ 1625.246976] ieee80211 phy0: channel change: 2427 -> 2432 failed (3).
Info on carl9170 config:
[ 843.389952] usb 1-2: driver API: 1.9.4 2011-08-15 [1-1]
[ 843.389960] usb 1-2: firmware API: 1.9.5 2012-03-14
My workaround for reactivate the connection is turn off the device and
turn on:
sudo rfkill block 0 && sudo rfkill unblock 0
