I thought I'd added a comment earlier, but I don't see it. If this is a
repeat, I'm sorry. I'm seeing the problem on a home built system built
on a GA-E350N motherboard with an ATI 6310 graphics card. Reboot and
Shutdown work, the system hangs on the purple screen with the Ubuntu
logo. Sometimes I get the dots, sometimes I don't. Once it hangs the
only path forward is to power down using the rocker switch. Two other
observations:

1. Suspend works as it should.
2. If I logout and shutdown from the login screen, the system shuts down as it 
should.
