I can confirm similar behaviour:
Instant freeze when undocking or docking to ultrabay.
lenovo T61
Ubuntu Release 12.04
NO peripherals attached to ultrabay, only power supply.
I already upgraded the kernel to 3.4.0 - but no improvement.
