Re comment #29 - there are no performance improvements in the upstream kernel 3.5 for your Radeon HD 4670 graphics card. lspci - actually shows that you are using a "Madison" Mobility Radeon 5000 series card, but there are no performance improvements in the upstream kernel 3.5 for that card either.
However please test the upstream kernel anyway as requested in comment #31 so that we can see if it has fixed your heat issue. Re comment #33, as Chris said in comment #35 please test both the open- source radeon driver and the closed-source ATI Catalyst (fglrx) driver. However I think you were asking about which version of the closed-source (binary) Catalyst (fglrx) driver to use - the one that comes with Ubuntu 12.04 "Precise Pangolin" or the more recent one available in precise- updates via Update Manager. It would be best if you could test with the more recent one, but the version is not too important. Either one will probably give similar results to Windows 7. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1005225 Title: My laptop is too hot when running Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1005225/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
