Do the same as in Kmail, please. I moved form Thunderbird to Kmail/1 in 2008 because Kmail/1 IMAP performance was magnitudes faster. I reconsidered and moved back to Thunderbird a few months ago because Kmail/1 has been replaced by Kmail/2 with degraded (understatment [1]) IMAP performance and plenty of other issues. I found Thunderbird has leapt forward (kudos!); I could add to it almost all the features I got used to in Kmail with add-ons, except the lack of ability to edit the >From field for the current email only. There was an add-on [2], but unfortunately it is discontinued [3]. If somebody with the necessary skill/knowledge could update that add-on, the feature would be available to whoever needs it, although the implementation in Kmail/1 is actually a very elegant one, with the feature "hidden" and available by simply clicking into the field.
