mr.goose, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 10, 2012. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number> Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Summary changed: - Ubuntu can only access the internal memory but not the the flash card on Olympus LS5 & LS11 series. + Ubuntu can only access the internal memory but not the the flash card on Olympus LS5 ** Description changed: I have an Olympus LS-5 Linear PCM recorder. This has two recording media, a built-in 2GB memory and an SD slot. In Ubuntu Linux, I can only access its internal memory (2GB), not the memory that belongs to its SH card. However, both Windows XP (SP2) and Macintosh OSX will recognise and access both volumes perfectly. Neither XP nor Mac OS require additional drivers in order to do so. - - I have also tried its sibling, the Olympus LS-11 on a Ubuntu machine. - This exhibits exactly the same behaviour as the LS-5. A quick "dmesg" on a standard Ubuntu box indicates that the Olympus LS-5's SD drive is not being detected by Ubuntu. As you will observe, Ubuntu sees "sdb1", but not "sdb2". I have several Ubuntu boxes some running Lucid and others running Maverick. None of them see the SD drive. Interestingly however, I have one Ubuntu (Maverick) machine running Windows XP, SP2 in Oracle VirtualBox. On this machine, whilst Ubuntu cannot see the SD drive directly, Windows XP inside Virtualbox can see both drives perfectly! The following outputs are from a standard Ubuntu laptop running Maverick:- dmesg | tail [95086.475507] scsi 15:0:0:0: Direct-Access OLYMPUS PCM RECORDER 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2 [95086.479523] sd 15:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 [95086.498996] sd 15:0:0:0: [sdb] 4014080 512-byte logical blocks: (2.05 GB/1.91 GiB) [95086.499738] sd 15:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off [95086.499743] sd 15:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 0b 00 00 08 [95086.499746] sd 15:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [95086.503627] sd 15:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [95086.503637] sdb: sdb1 [95086.516873] sd 15:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [95086.516880] sd 15:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk -
