In reply to the original bug report: the problem seen in the screen shot seems to come up on different distros; it seems nobody is able to reliably reproduce it... Maybe to narrow down the various bugs behind this bug report: I've experienced this "page opens in new window instead of new tab, and FF crashes if that window is closed" thing on Debian Etch, and noticed that Firefox will print some GTK warnings on stdout when this happens. If you start Firefox not from some terminal, the messages appear in ~/.xsession-errors , and look like this:

Maybe someone can confirm whether this is the same bug?
