Joseph, I have few other comments about resume. In fact with kernel 3.2 and 3.4, resuming is working ! it is just that there is a black screen... If I press Fn+f2 or Fn+f3 once (backlight up and down) then the screen comes back !
In kernel 3.5 there is no need to press anything.
