Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

hwtest probably just used the email address as an identifier for your
submission. Hwtest has been superseded by checkbox, and I just verified
behavior to ensure we haven't carried over this bug for years.

Checkbox correctly checks that the email address is valid and does
nothing if an invalid one is entered (this is a bug, it should show a
warning of some kind, but since it's on checkbox, not on hwtest, I'll
file it separately).

If the email address is valid, the submission gets uploaded and the
email address used to identify it. Since it's not used for anything
else, and not actively verified by e.g. sending e-mail to it, there's
really not much we can do to ensure it's an existing, working e-mail
address.

I'll mark this bug as invalid based on the fact that hwtest is no longer
actively developed, both it and the Ubuntu releases with which it
shipped are EOL, and the behavior is apparently improved in checkbox.

Thanks!
