I have probably the same problem.

*Fresh Ubuntu 12.04 installation on a new/clean system.
*mdraid (level 1) for /boot
*mdraid (level 5 ) --> dm_crypt -->  lvm
*lv for /
*lv for swap
*all done within the ubuntu alternate installer
*setup fails while trying to install grub with a fatal error.

After chrooting to /target and trying to install grub manually (grub-install
/dev/sda), i get the same error:
error: no such disk.

Title:
  grub-probe fails with "no such disk" when using
  /dev/mapper/vg0-rootlv, but now with /dev/dm-2 (which should be the
  same)
