nevermind the previous comments:
1. for some reason, when you want to install a kernel for a intel core i5 on a
64bit system, you need to select the kernel "amd64" and not "intel".
2. to clean up a kernel, the easiest way is to use Synaptic
3. to update your grub after removing a kernel, cmd "sudo update-grub".

So, after cleanup of all previous kernel versions,
i was able to install the amd64 version of
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.6-rc1-quantal/
and it did not solve the problem of the keyboard/mouse.
