Just to clarify, you undid your WORKAROUND in /etc/default/grub , by changing the following lines back to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" #GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 Where GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 is now commented out via the "#".
