Public bug reported:

Since Ubuntu 12.04 and now with a clean install of 12.10 most of the
time the sound mutes and unmutes about every 2 seconds. This doesn't
happen with the volume icon on the screen but with the icon button on
the laptop itself.

If I manually mute the sound it stops until I unmute the sound manually
again.

Looks like some powersaving feature which is not working well?

I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 32bit on a HP 6710b laptop.
