It appears that once in a while after doing a background scan you're no
longer seeing beacons from the AP. When that happens mac80211 actively
probes the AP but is not getting a response that way either. Then it
gives up and sets the wireless state to disconnected. Reconnection
attempts are similarly unable to get a response from the AP.
The AP must be transmitting the beacons since yanking and replugging the
dongle gets it working again, so there's definitely a problem receiving
wireless frames from the AP when you're in this state. It's impossible
to tell whether or not transmit is working from this data, only that the
driver *thinks* transmit is working. My best guess is that there's some
problem in the driver with setting the operating channel or similar.
I'll take a look at the driver to see if I can find something.
