Thunderbird (thunderbird 17.0+build2-0ubuntu0.12.10.1) under xubuntu 12.10 still pulls in thunderbird-globalmenu (thunderbird-globalmenu 17.0+build2-0ubuntu0.12.10.1) as a dependency.
The package thunderbird-globalmenu provides a Thunderbird Extension which adds support to Thunderbird for the Unity appmenu. However, Xubuntu does not include Unity. So this thunderbird dependency pulls in useless garbage without any functionality. This is not only a matter of package size but also a core design principle: Linux packages should only be included as dependencies when they provide essential or indispensable functionality. This dependency should therefore be removed from the thunderbird package. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1085535 Title: Xubuntu has thunderbird-globalmenu package witch it cant use To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1085535/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
